Available languages to practice:

Japanese using either romaji, hiragana or kanji
Chinese including pinyin and hanzi wraiting systems
English

Some quick notes about the way languages are displayed within the game:

The ideograms to render the objects are picked among the ones most relevant within the word
Similar dishes are translated using the most popular version in the selected language, for example dumplings are translated in Japanese as "gyouza" and in Chinese as "jiaozi"
Some expressions are translated literally to keep the feeling of the target language, like in Japanese where "itadakimasu" is translated as "thanks for the meal" instead of "bon appetite"
At present Japanese and Chinese dialogues use only basic counters
Only informal speech is available at the moment

Description

Hito's World is a cozy story-heavy adventure game based in a world made of ideograms where you need to learn and use a new language in order to progress.

Ever felt like waking up in a world that you don't understand, where people around you don't speak your language and you need to figure out a way to communicate with others?

Don't worry! In Hito's world there are plenty of friends to help you get by... And maybe you'll figure out the reason why you ended up in this strange place.

Use the words you learn to perform actions such as crafting, farming, cooking, building and more. There are always new things to do in town, and the summer festival is about to start!

But wait, someone is missing. I hope he is ok...

History

Back in 2020 I wanted to go to Japan.

As I was learning Japanese I was wondering if there was a game to help me practice the language, but at that time I could not find something that was both fun and immersive at the same time.

I wanted something that would drop me inside the language from the very start, where the core mechanics of the game would make me use the language rather than relying on puzzles and crosswords.

So after some research I decided to make this game myself. And that is how Hito's World was born.

The idea is to learn as a consequence, linking words, ideograms and memories to a story that you can live within the game.

The reddit community gave me the motivation to keep improving the initial prototype, but only after a break when I volunteered in farms across Europe I decided to commit to complete it.

Release date is expected to be in 2028, followed by improvements such as new languages and game modes added progressively.
